Serpents Without Venom

Serpents Without Venom
I dance in the desert dawn between the sun and the moon
erect images in sacred space, in the darkness just for you
as fire strives ever heavenward
as rain falls to the earth
as the rivers run into the sea
or drop into the ground beneath
I smash the serpent
I crush the worm
the hopes and dreams that are in between
I carry to term
serpents without venom
behind the realm of sleep
everything that they believe
will bring them to their knees...to their knees
Transformation isn't cheap
nor the sands of time
spin in circles round and round
think they walk the line
finger pointing at the moon
all they see is the hand
secrets of the past washed away
like castles in the sand
I smash the serpent
I release the herd
Hopes and dreams that are in between
I carry to term
serpents without venom
behind the realm of light
everything that they believe
dissolves into the night...into the night
mountains of destruction
hidden by a veil of fog
in the sky the eagle screams
and shines like a thousand suns
finger pointing at the moon
all they see is the hand
secrets of the past washed away
like castles in the sand
I smash the serpent
I crush the worm
hopes and dreams that were in between
I carry to term
serpents without venom
behind the realm of sleep
everything that they believe
will bring them to their knees

Lake of the Mind

Lake of the Mind
On a mountain top both high and wide
There lies a lake called the mind
With its glistening waters both still and bright
It reflects the moon's enchanting light
And the moon reflects the mighty sun
From what great source we know not from
The darkness hangs upon its shore
Forever embracing its looming form
Until the blooming light of day
Does hide her eternal starry face
Never touch, but always near
Longing for each other dear
And from the heavens there grows a tree
Adorned with many branches and leaves
Within those leave run great veins
Within them too run the same
Worlds within worlds within its fold
Where its roots lie no one knows
Within the garden there grows a rose
Its petals yet tightly closed
Its thorns are sharp like gaping teeth
Nestled safe in a shroud of leaves
Fed by the sun, caressed by land
If you want to receive hold open your hand

Feather and Wedding

Feather and Wedding
The lodge looked West at the edge of a canyon
A midnight moon lit the land
Fifty feet down there lay a feather
King of the Sky left in the sand
I climbed down to sage and scrub oak,
Found many feathers there blood stained
Eagle would return to heal and feed
In the brush he hid his pain
Suddenly he appeared beside me
As tall as any human
Looked at me with his yellow-rimmed eye
He turned into a shaman
Eagle-Shaman set me on his back
Southward, Shaman-Eagle flew
He set me at his hogan’s door, then
Into the smoke hole he withdrew
Married we shall be, he told me
And showed me my secret name
As he drew breath from his sacred pipe
I sat down to do the same
And soon we left our bodies
Our souls mingled toward the sun
As we rose above the fire
The two of us became one.

Fles and Oge

Fles and Oge
Two Brothers I know, one young and one old
One of them modest, the other quite bold
Fles the eldest, Oge the young
One known by silence, the other his tongue
They're always together, though strange it may seem
Two brothers so different keep close company
Oge is short, his complexion is pale
His body is strong, on the inside he's frail
Fles is dark and he's very tall
To those around him he seems very small
In fact he's so dark he can scarcely be seen
He's always out shun buy Oge's gaudy gleam
Oge is arrogant, spiteful and crass
When he's not making folks angry he's making them laugh
Fles is silent, he rarely speaks at all
when he opens his mouth his words invoke awe
More valuable than gold, his honey sweet words
That drip from his tongue like the song of rare birds
Greater his heart, with a passion of fire
A vision of virtue and his will is of iron
But Oge knows not his brother full well
He thinks of him not, but only himself
In spite of this, he must love his brother dear
If it wasn't for Fles he would have no one near
Perhaps it's because they're of one flesh and blood
But what Fles has forgotten, is that Oge was adopted
But Oge is none the wise, cause he was raised on lies
If he knew the truth he probably would die

Empty Heart

Empty Heart
Tell me why is your heart empty
If you walked a thousand miles
Would you find some place to call your home
That would make your life worthwhile
Do the stars all not shine above when your asleep in bed
Will the sun not rise to great you when you raise your weary head
Tell me why
Tell me why is your heart empty
If you found someone to love
Would you withdraw your senses
From the skies above
Does the wind not whisper sweetly, softly in your ear
If you found that special someone, would you disappear
Tell me why
Tell me why is your heart empty
If you found some meaning to life
Would you withdraw your senses
From the pain and strife
Does the Earth not cry out mournfully, like a little girl
If you found the secrets of Heaven, would you forsake the World
Tell me why

City of Silence
Can you see the holy fire
That burns upon the funeral pyre
Can you see the flickering flame
That feeds the dead and warms the insane
The Earth is a graveyard, full of the walking dead
From the moment of birth we know for sure
It will all come to an end
Well the sun sets in the smashan
In the graveyard, in the burning grounds
In the city, in the city of silence
In the city, in the city of silence
We the sun sets in smashan
In the graveyard, in the holy grounds
In the city, in the city of silence
In the city, in the city of silence
I lay down in the ashes of the dead
The voices of those passed before me
Ring through my head
I lay down in the ashes of the newly fallen dead
The voices of those passed before me ring through my head
We the sun sets in smashan
In the graveyard, in the holy grounds
In the city, in the city of silence
In the city, in the city of silence

Steel Serpent
Forth Fares the Steel Serpent
Over hills and dales of tar
In its' belly I do abode
On trails of Iron I travel far
No escape from this dreadful dragon
That winds its way to the worker's den
Where I enslaved must spend my days
working beneath its' greedy chin
Once I thought to gain
Fair freedom
Far away in fabled lands
Now I see I'm sold to slavery
Once I sat upon the serpent's back
