The Smashan is a place where Hindus burn their dead and often leave their smoldering corpses behind. Some renunciants, aghoris dwell in the creamatoriums to meditate on mortality and overcome fear as well as disgust. They turn the odious into a sacrament.
lyrics
City of Silence
Can you see the holy fire
That burns upon the funeral pyre
Can you see the flickering flame
That feeds the dead and warms the insane
The Earth is a graveyard, full of the walking dead
From the moment of birth we know for sure
It will all come to an end
Well the sun sets in the smashan
In the graveyard, in the burning grounds
In the city, in the city of silence
In the city, in the city of silence
We the sun sets in smashan
In the graveyard, in the holy grounds
In the city, in the city of silence
In the city, in the city of silence
I lay down in the ashes of the dead
The voices of those passed before me
Ring through my head
I lay down in the ashes of the newly fallen dead
The voices of those passed before me ring through my head
We the sun sets in smashan
In the graveyard, in the holy grounds
In the city, in the city of silence
In the city, in the city of silence
